This week in JK

W is for...
water, watch, whistle, wheel, and so much more!

The Three Little Pigs
We learned about the story The Three Little Pigs. This is a great story to teach sequencing. Here, students are creating the pigs' houses out of straw, sticks, and "bricks."

Handwriting
Beautiful weather means our handwriting lessons can be outside!

Eric Carle
We read Eric Carle books this week and studied his art. We watched a cool video that explained how he creates his artwork. We imitated him by finger painting paper. When our paintings dried, we could cut out shapes to make art. Take a look at the finished products in the hallway at school (picture below).

W is for Water
In science this week, we learned about water. What sinks? What floats? How does water flow? How much water can different containers hold?

We turned our sensory table into a water table with many fun activities to complete while getting wet! It was quite a hit and we will keep it around another week.

We love having fun with friends in the dramatic play center!

Mystery Reader
We had two amazing mystery readers visit our classroom from North Dakota. We were so excited and grateful to know they wanted to donate their book and a stuffed animal to our classroom. Thank you!

This Week in JK

Art
We each painted one tree to represent each of the four seasons.

Ff is for Farm
This week, we learned about the farm. Most of our centers had activities relating to the farm.

The Farmer in the Dell
Our song of the week was "The Farmer in the Dell". The kids loved playing this game and singing the song each day.

Small Group
Students are learning about animals on the farm during small group time.

Daily Focus
Students are practicing their actions and chants that go along with each of the letters we have learned so far.

A Week of Awards
We are so proud of all of our JK students, but this week seemed to be extra special for a few of our students earning awards in wrestling and archery.

This Week in JK

Science
This week in science, we studied the weather. On this particular day, we were predicting which everyday objects could be moved by the wind. We were lucky to have such a windy day and almost all of the objects tested were able to be pushed by the wind.

We have been recording the weather each day in our booklets. Unfortunately, we have seen the a lot of the same weather this week...cold and cloudy!

Math
We have been talking about number order and sequencing in math. Students were asked to hold these marker boards and arrange themselves in the correct order.

Our Foster Grandpa was also a great help in teaching students number order.

Center Time
We have an office at our dramatic play center. Students have been busy answering phones, taking messages, using staplers and tape, and having some coffee in the "break room".

 Puzzle Center

Listening Center

Math Center

 Art
We are half way done with our art project. These cool trees we painted will be divided into four and decorated to represent each of the four seasons.

Children's Theater
The Parent Action Committee (PAC) hosted a play directed by Mr. Swanson. We got to travel to the high school to watch their performance.

Mystery Reader
Thank you to our latest mystery reader!

This Week in JK

Happy St. Patrick's Day
JK students celebrated St. Patrick's Day by making colored rice rainbows, dotted shamrocks, and pots of gold filled with our favorite treasures.

Dramatic Play Center
We had puppet shows galore this week. It's fun to hear what students come up with.

Science Center
With our study of ramps last week, students had the opportunity to build ramps and test out different objects at the science center. Would they roll or would they slide?

Listening Center
We needed more time with Dr. Seuss, so we added his stories to the listening center this week.
