This Week in JK

Letter Tt
Students are holding picture cards that begin with the letter Tt. They each get a chance to talk about their card with the class and show the word on the back.

Tt is for tiger.

Reading Center
Our reading center has opened once again. We are studying transportation this week, so all of our books are about transportation vehicles.

Our favorite books this week feature trains, boats, trucks, and so much more.

 Writing Center
We worked on a President's Day/American symbols book in the writing center this week.

Dramatic Play Center
JK students enjoyed creating vehicles in the play center for transportation week.

 Whole Group Work
During whole group, students sorted vehicles into the categories land, air, or water.

Math
We are learning how to measure. Students worked together in small groups to measure pictures of trains, dump trucks, and airplanes.

Art
We used our fine motor skills to make these torn paper traffic lights.  We also talked about where we see traffic lights and what they mean.

 Mystery Reader
Thank you to our latest mystery reader. If you are still interested in being a mystery reader, we have a few spots available on Fridays in April and May.

This Week in JK

Math
We are learning the numbers 13 and 14. It is so fun to use these marker boards to share our answers.

We are reviewed shapes this week. We learned how to draw kites using diamonds and triangles.

Valentine's Day
This game is much like hot potato, only we pass a box of chocolates.

Handing out our Valentine's Day cards gives us great practice reading our friends' names.

During art class, we learned how to use non-conventional materials as stampers. We formed paper towel rolls to make the shape of hearts and dipped them in paint.

 Recess

It has been so beautiful this week!

We can't wait for all of that ice to melt so we can play on the field again.

 Center Time
We have really dug into letter sounds this week. Students at the ABC center match letters to pictures that begin with those letters.

Our building center features some new prism bricks for building vehicles.

The corn dig at the sensory center was mighty popular, so we decided to keep it around for one more week. :)

Language Arts
Kk is for Kite! Students pick their favorite scrapbook paper to make these kites.

This Week in JK

100th Day of School
We had a day packed full of fun activities on our 100th day of school. JK students have been busy learning to count by tens to 100.  Knowing how to count by tens helps us figure out number patterns and actually makes it easier to count by ones to 100. Here, students are stamping 10 groups of 10 stamps to get to 100.

We each had the opportunity to share our 100 items from home. We saw 100 pieces of popcorn, 100 noodles, 100 pennies, 100 marbles, and even 100 lollipops.

All of us took a picture under our "100 Days Smarter" sign for our memory books.

Art
We have been busy in art class learning about different tools we can use to paint. We used paintbrushes, sponges, mesh, and even rope to paint the background to our Valentine's Day pictures.

Centers
Our building center features one of our favorites, the road building set. We have added some new items to the set including a car carrier and a few new vehicles.

Sensory Table
We have a corn dig in the sensory table. Kids check off a list of items once they find them in the corn. They must also find and match capital and lowercase letters.

We are gearing up for another author study. This week we will be reading stories by Robert Munsch.

This Week in JK

Sensory Table
Ii is for ice. The sensory table contained ice this week. Students used droppers of food coloring to experiment with the ice and colors.

Dramatic Play Center
We have turned the dramatic play center into a flower and candy shoppe. Students can arrange flower bouquets and fill boxes of chocolate. They would make deliveries during center time.

ABC Center
This week, the ABC center had a bean bag letter matching game.

Math Center
Our math center had fun Valentine's Day games. The boys are playing a numeral/quantity match game.

Writing Center
The JK students have enjoyed the writing center this week. We can use stickers and stencils to decorate Valentine's Day cards. We can also use word strips to help us write on the cards, and we have learned how to cut out hearts to add for decoration.

Rhyming
We have been studying rhyming words this week. JK students had to find their rhyming match.

moon and spoon

hat and cat

 car and star

 house, mouse, and Krause

 bee and tree

Whole Group Activities
We learned the song "If You're Happy and You Know It."

Ii is for Igloo

We played a game called Dice-Cream. Students rolled the dice in pairs and had to add up their dots. Once they knew the number, they had to locate and color the section on their ice cream cones that contained their number.

We wrote numbers on the smart board.

Mystery Reader
JK wants to thank our mystery reader for coming to our classroom all the way from Phillip, SD!
